How Emsculpting Works
The Emsculpt® device is placed on the surface of the target area and delivers HIFEM (High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic technology) and causes supramaximal contractions to the abdominal or buttocks muscles. Patients report a tugging or pulling sensation during the procedure, but it should not be painful. It feels similar to a TENS muscle stimulation but stronger. The treatment is very easy to tolerate, most patients read or catch up on their iPhone or computer during the 30-minute session. Treatment with Emsculpt® lasts about 30 minutes and is completed in at least four sessions that are typically scheduled two to three days apart over two weeks.

Emsculpt for arms and thighs is now an option for patients with the introduction of a smaller applicator. This major advancement in body shaping technology was announced during the 39th Annual Conference of the American Society for Laser Medicine & Surgery (ASLMS). Originally only approved for muscle stimulation and fat reduction of fat in the abdomen and buttock area, Emsculpt’s new, smaller applicator creates new treatment areas that can now be contoured by HIFEM energy.
Emsculpt for Arms and Thighs: How Does it Work?
The Emsculpt process uses Highly Focused Electro Magnetic (HIFEM) energy to create supramaximal contractions, which are ultra-powerful contractions, in a specific muscle area. It is not possible to create supramaximal contractions using manual methods on one’s own. Just one Emsculpt treatment equates to 20,000 squats or 20,000 crunches. This ultimately results in muscle growth, toning, and strengthening.
In addition to stimulating muscle growth, Emsculpt’s HIFEM energy causes lipolysis by destroying fat cells. These destroyed cells are then collected naturally and leave the body as waste.
